About your Course
The Level 3 Award in Reptile Studies is an Ofqual regulated qualification and is split into 2 units. During the qualification you will learn about the behavioural, welfare and care needs of reptile species around the world.
The qualification will teach learners the importance of reptile conservation, research and keeping.
The qualification is suitable for reptile owners and those aged over 16 or who are working in animal welfare, animal charity organisations or pet shops.
All the material is readily available once you enrol, so you’re able to start studying right away!
Crocodiles of the World Placement
Crocodiles of the World is the UKs only dedicated crocodile zoo, with 19 species of crocodiles and alligators along with Komodo dragons, Galapagos giant tortoises, meerkats, fishing cats, tamarins, and plenty of lizards and snakes.
Learners get to work for 3 days directly with the animal team, preparing food, feeding and cleaning/maintaining enclosures and enclosure areas. Whilst learners will not be working directly with any of the crocodilians, this is a great way to experience how a zoo operates, and the fundamentals of animal husbandry for exotic animals.
Please note that this placement is optional and not assessed.

Modules
Unit 1: Reptile Biology, Behaviour and Conservation
On completing this first unit, students will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the biology of reptiles
- Learn about the in-situ conservation efforts for reptiles
- Understand how to identify certain behaviours in reptiles
Unit 2: Reptile Care and Welfare
On completing this second unit, students will be able to:
- Understand how to provide optimal care for a variety of reptile species
- Gain an understanding of reptile welfare and how to promote it
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners must be aged 16 and over.

You have 24 months to complete your course.
Placement or Practical required
This course does not include a mandatory placement. However, learners have the opportunity to complete an optional placement that is offered at Crocodiles of the World.
If placement or practical required, when?
Crocodiles of the World placement dates and length of time spent on placement can be arranged to suit the learner (2-5 days).
Certification Timeframe
Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.
Course Fees
All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.
*You will have access to the course for 24 months.
To successfully gain the Level 3 Award in Reptile Studies, students must achieve 10 credits.
You will be assessed through internal assessments conducted online at the end of each unit and assessed by one of our qualified animal tutors.
When are you assessed?
As you are in control of how you learn, you are also in charge of when you hand in your assignments.
This enables you to take as long as you need to thoroughly understand the unit before completing any assignments.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) is an international conservation charity that is dedicated to ensuring that wildlife habitats continue to thrive.
Through science, field conservation and the work of ZSL London and ZSL Whipsnade Zoos, habitats are getting the help they need, continuously tackling the challenges that come their way. By undertaking the Zookeeping Level 3 Diploma (RQF), you can apply for a Fellowship. If successful, you will get unlimited access to both zoos and borrowing rights to zoological texts.
Also, if you undergo your practical training at ZSL London, you may have an opportunity to apply for a job role at the zoo should you be successful. The career possibilities are far and wide.
