Playwork

Our Playwork course is divided into six units, each of which deals with one or more learning outcomes related to one or more aspects of Play and Playwork.

About Playwork

Once you have completed the entire Playwork Course you will have achieved all the learning outcomes.

By the end of the Playwork course you will be able to:

  • Understand Playwork Principles and different types of play.
  • Understand the value of different relationships in playwork and their impact on positive outcomes within play settings
  • Understand how to provide an inclusive and challenging play environment
  • Understand how to provide an organisational framework for play
  • Understand how to develop playwork provision and create play opportunities in the community
  • Understand the importance of reflective practice for practitioners

Modules

Unit 1: Introduction to Play and Playwork

This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will explore the Playwork Principles and the different types of play, research theories of play, and consider the importance of play in learning and development for all ages.

Unit 2: Understand, develop and promote positive relationships in the play environment

This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. You will research how you as a practitioner can promote positive outcomes for children and young people in play settings, exploring the various methods of communication and importance of effective communication in building and supporting relationships in the play environment.

Unit 3: An inclusive and challenging play environment

In this unit you will learn how to promote and provide health, safety and security in the play environment while still enabling children and young people to explore risk. You will research the concept and provision of self -directed play and inclusive play for all children and young people.

Unit 4: The management and administration of a playwork provision.

In this unit you will research how to provide an organisational framework for play which includes understanding your legal responsibilities. You will explore children’s rights in respect of play, and the value of teamwork including working with parents and others.

Unit 5: Developing playwork provision and opportunities in the community.

This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research community play areas, organized opportunities in the community, urban and rural play areas and the creation of play spaces.

Unit 6: Reflective playwork practice.

This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research why and how to reflect, the importance of reflective practice for continuing professional development and for career progression.

Entry Requirements

There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

*You will have access to the course for 24 months.

On successful completion of your course you will receive the learndirect Certificate of Completion of Training in Playwork.

Your course certificate will also state the number of CPD points/hours the course is eligible for.
