About Your Diploma

While working as a Dental Nurse, you will be responsible for maintaining good practice and a high quality of service while demonstrating professional skills and techniques. To achieve this career goal you need to obtain accredited qualifications which you can do by studying with learndirect.
Through our innovative online learning platform, you can study for an NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing. This Diploma course is accredited by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses and is equivalent to level 3.
The NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing comprises of two sections. The first 12 weeks includes securing employment as a Trainee Dental Nurse. We offer a comprehensive range of job support including CV review, job search and interview/trial day preparation. During the initial 12 weeks you can progress to unit 5 on our online learning platform. If you have not secured employment within this 12-week timeframe, you will remain in this initial stage before rejoining the course and continuing your learning.
Once employment has been secured, you will continue your learning on our online learning platform and proceed to taking your written NEBDN exam in either April or November. Your exam dates will be confirmed to you by your tutor.
Once you have successfully completed the course and passed the exams, you will be qualified as a Dental Nurse, allowing you to work in a range of settings including hospitals, private practices and community dental clinics.

Entry Requirements
• No formal qualifications are needed to train to become a professionally qualified dental nurse. • A good level of written and spoken English is required. • Min age:16 years • Min requirement of 16 hours per week within a dental surgery.

• formative workplace assessment – the Record of Experience. • The summative assessment comprises a written and practical component aimed at assessing knowledge and decision-making to demonstrate trainee Dental Nurses’ understanding and competence.
Is employment or practical experience required?
Yes. As soon as possible after enrolment with minimum requirement of 16 hours per week within a dental surgery working as a trainee dental nurse. You need to secure your employment within the first 12 weeks of joining the course.

Exams required
The NEBDN examination is in two parts and you will need to pass Part 1 before you can take Part 2. Part 1 is a written exam consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and extended matching questions (EMQs). Part 2 is a practical examination consisting of a series of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs). These clinical examinations are designed around simulated situations which you may commonly encounter in the workplace. Once you have passed Part 2 of the examination you will be awarded the NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing and you will be eligible to apply for registration with the General Dental Council as a qualified Dental Nurse
