Studying your GCSE
GCSE Sociology gives you the knowledge and understanding of key social structures, processes and issues. You will do this through the study of families, education, crime and deviance and social stratification.
By studying Sociology, you will develop transferable skills. You will learn how to investigate situations, make deductions and develop opinions about a range of social issues.
You will be taught how to analyse and better understand the sociological world through the development of analytical skills. This will allow you to compare and contrast perspectives on a host of social issues.
The course also includes key ideas from classical sociologists such as Durkheim, Marx and Weber. Their views of the world and their contribution to the development of the discipline should inform your own understanding of this complex subject.
You will also learn how to apply research methods to different sociological contexts.
You will be able to apply sociological knowledge to a range of social issues, using structured analysis and reasoned arguments. This will enable you to progress to further study such as A level or an Access to HE Diploma.

At the end of each unit you will find a Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA). This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each assignment you’ll be ready to take your exam!
If you decide to take the GCSE exam at the end of this course and pass, you will have gained an GCSE in Sociology. This will enable you to progress to further and higher education programmes.
