This popular package includes the examination of key concepts in both Maths and English that you can explore at your own pace.
The Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 online course includes everything you need to gain a C/4 grade at the GCSE level. However, this particular package takes it one step further with the added bonus of an online exam that you can take from the comfort of your own home.
This innovative solution has been developed thanks to our remote Functional Skills software technology that allows you to schedule and take your exam, without the added pressure of a classroom, or schedule constraints.
The course was designed as a combination of our popular supported packages in Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 which means you will benefit from 2 hours of one-to-one sessions with a dedicated tutor that will provide support and guidance.

Modules
Functional Skills Level 2 English consists of the following units:
- Reading – This Functional Skills Level 2 English module looks at reading for information, including looking at biased pieces of work and will help you to work out how much the opinions of certain authors can be trusted. It also looks at the different types of layout features and how these can impact the reader. All of the reading skills that you will look at will be tested in quizzes at the end of each section, followed by a tutor-marked assignment, ensuring that you are ready to sit your final exam
- Writing – This Functional Skills Level 2 English module looks at the best way to write certain pieces. This may include letters, newspaper articles, emails and blogs amongst others. This area will also test your spelling, punctuation and grammar skills. At the end of your learning are quizzes and tutor-marked assignments, ensuring that you are ready to sit your final exam
- Speaking, Listening and Communication – The speaking, listening and communication (SLC) element of English functional skills is one of the most useful and fun areas to strengthen. This Functional Skills Level 2 English module helps you prepare for the SLC assessment by showing you examples of the best ways to tackle everyday situations at home and in the workplace. These will help build your confidence and effectiveness in these scenarios and combined with our quizzes and tutor-marked assignment will make you ready for the SLC assessment.
Once you’ve passed all tutor-marked assignments you will be ready to take your mock exam. The mock exam is marked by your tutor and feedback on readiness for the exam and any recommended revision areas are given. Then you’ll be ready to book your exam.
Functional Skills Level 2 Maths is taught using the following units:
- Using Numbers – This section of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths covers everything from whole numbers to decimals, fractions and percentages. You’ll look at how to solve real problems using these skills, including making decisions about purchases, using ratios in recipes at work or working out whether your bills are correct. All of the number skills you look at will be tested by quizzes at the end of each section, and a tutor-marked assignment to ensure you’re ready for your exam.
- Understanding Measure, Shape and Space – This element of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths course contains a wide range of topics from area and distance to time, speed and temperature. You’ll look at how to solve problems involving time to plan your day-to-day or work life, and how to use your understanding of shape and area to do anything from read a map to plan a house renovation. Our quizzes will check that you’re able to use these skills in different situations while the tutor-marked assignment will make sure you’re ready for your exam.
- Handling Data – This section looks at working with information. You’ll look at how to summarise and present information that you’ve found, and how to understand information that other people are sharing with you in this part of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths course. You’ll also look at probability and how likely certain things are to happen. As well as learn how to spot patterns and see how even data and statistics can be biased. Quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment ensures you’re ready to tackle your exam.
Once you’ve passed all tutor-marked assignments you will be ready to take your mock exam. The mock exam is marked by your tutor and feedback on readiness for the exam and any recommended revision areas are given. Then you’ll be ready to book your exam.

Equipment Requirements:
For you to sit a remotely invigilated assessment, you’ll need the following equipment/environment:
- Laptop/desktop with webcam and microphone (Microsoft Windows or a Mac, Chromebooks cannot be used)
- Wi-Fi connection (Min 1Mbit/s upload | Min 10Mbit/s download)
- Smartphone or tablet (Apple iOS 8.0/Android 4.1 or higher)
- Suitable test environment (quiet room with no distractions)
- Your laptop/desktop will run the assessment software and your smartphone or tablet will be used to record you and the assessment. The assessment itself cannot be sat on a smartphone or tablet
Laptop/desktop Requirements:
You’ll need to have access to a laptop/desktop that has the following set up:
- A stable internet connection - Tethering via a mobile phone is not supported, neither are Chromebooks
- Wi-Fi connection – you should be positioned where the signal is strongest
- Web browser – you’ll need the latest version of Google Chrome
- Webcam required – maximum resolution of 1280 x 720
- Microphone required
- Audio required
- If possible, turn off any updates on devices
- Ensure that your laptop/desktop is plugged in for the duration of the assessment
Note: Attempting to use a laptop or device that is intended for work purposes may have restricted access and admin rights installed. This may cause issues when trying to access the ProctorExam platform and therefore it is recommended that you use a personal laptop or device.
Mobile devices:
You’ll need a smartphone or tablet on which you’ll need to download the ProctorExam app. You can download the app by accessing the Google Play Store (Android devices) or the App Store (iOS (Apple) devices) and searching for ProctorExam. Our instructions for downloading the app will be provided during the system check process once your assessment is booked. Specifications for downloading and running the app are:
- Android 4.1 or higher/iOS (Apple) 8.0 or higher
- Video resolution must be minimum 800 x 600 px
- Ensure you can connect to Wi-Fi – so you don’t use up your data
- Ensure your mobile device can be plugged in for the duration of your assessment
Please note that the Google Pixel series of phones are currently unsupported due to issues with blurring within the ProctorExam application.

Certification Timeframe
You can expect to receive your certification 6 weeks after completing your last exam.

During your Functional Skills Level 2 combined course you will be assessed throughout your learning by our online quizzes. If you achieve 80% or more in our quizzes, you’re ready to take your assignment. Once all your assignments are passed, you’ll be ready for the mock exam. One marked mock exam for each exam is included in this Functional Skills Level 2 combined course package. Your tutor will mark each, give you detailed feedback and if appropriate highlight further areas for you to strengthen.
All instalment plans must be paid in full before any Functional Skills exam can be booked.
