The course also explores the ways people are organised into groups according to distinctions such as class, gender and race.

You will also be asked to understand the concepts of culture and identity. This will include the different conceptions of culture, the self, identity and the relationship of identity to age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality etc.

The course will also challenge you to understand how the media can impact on society including representation, the presentation of news and biases.

You’ll explore the links between health, poverty, crime and welfare. This will include the distribution of wealth, the persistence of poverty and unequal social distribution. Your studies will be underpinned by sociological theory and methodologies.
