Studying your A Level
The English Language A Level course introduces you to the principals of advanced language study. You will develop your ability to write for different audiences, with different objectives in mind.
You will develop your writing and creative writing skills. This will be supported through exposure to different texts and discourses and a focus on aspects of textual variation.
This will feed into the writing and the study of language variation, attitudes to language and as a creative tool for expression.
You will learn how to research and analyse a text in order to support lines of enquiry, debate different views and research aspects of language in use.
When you have completed this A Level you will be able to draw academic insights from a range of fields within the study of English language/linguistics, including sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. You will also have demonstratable skills in written form and creative writing.
This course includes all your AQA exams that will allow you to gain your A Level English Language.
You will sit two papers that will cover the full range of your studies and encourage you to draw together your knowledge, skills and understanding from across the full course of study.
Exams will take place at an official exam centre in May/June. Exam bookings will be made each January for the following May/June by one of our higher education team. Exam location will depend on which centres are open. The team member arranging the exam for each student will always recommend the centre closest to the address of the learner.
You will be expected to provide extended responses to questions to demonstrate your deeper understanding.
This course also includes a non-exam assessment that must be completed to gain your A Level.
