Studying your A-Level / IA-Level

A-Level and IA-Level Chemistry allows you to build on your GCSE knowledge. The course is a big step up but you’re rewarded with rich and varied areas of study.

A-Level / IA-Level Chemistry allows you to study the very building blocks of life and how they interact with one another.

You will study atomic structure and bonding, the Periodic Table, alcohols, hydrocarbons, alkanes and chemical equilibrium, amongst others.

This qualification has been designed to cover both AQA’s A Level and Pearson's iA Level syllabus so you will complete the course with strong chemistry knowledge. This will allow you to go on to study Chemistry or other Science-related degrees at university.  It also means that you have a choice of exam structure - when you book your exams you can choose between the A Level or the iA Level.

The units follow a logical structure with an introduction to Science.

You will then move on to study Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.

The modules are designed to help you familiarise yourself with essential concepts in Chemistry in an organised, step-by-step way. This is to ensure you will be fully prepared for studying chemistry at Level 4 or higher.

This course bundle not only includes all the course material but the three exam papers you’ll need to gain your A-Level / IA-Level in chemistry. The exams will cover a range of subject matter from the course including physical chemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry.

Only when you have completed and passed all three exams will you be awarded your qualification.

Getting Started

A-Level / IA-Level Chemistry is completely online, which means you can enrol and access your course materials at any point. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

Each module has an assignment to complete, which you can then upload on to your virtual learning platform. Your tutor will mark your work and provide you with the necessary feedback to help you progress on your course.

Chemistry can be challenging, so even though all your studies will be online, you should never feel alone studying with us. Your tutor is always available to answer your questions, address any challenges and offer you feedback whenever you need it.

You can get in touch at any point over phone, email or by messaging through the online platform.

Pursuing your career

An A-Level or IA-Level in Chemistry can allow you to go on to study Chemistry or related Sciences at university. However, your desired university will have entry requirements so be sure to check the grade required in this and associated subjects.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

You will be unable to book your exam until all outstanding course fees are settled in full, this includes any associated charges deemed to be payable as per your initial contract.

All courses funded via our partner Premium Credit Limited, will need to be settled with them directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Determining the hardest A-Level is subjective and varies from person to person based on individual strengths and interests. A-Level Chemistry is often considered challenging due to its depth of theoretical concepts, practical applications, and the need for mathematical skills. However, other A-Levels, such as physics and further mathematics, are also renowned for their level of complexity. Despite its difficulty, many students find enjoyment in A-Level Chemistry because it offers a fascinating exploration of the fundamental principles governing matter. Students who appreciate problem-solving and critical thinking may find satisfaction in deciphering the complexities of molecular interactions. A-Level Chemistry not only cultivates a deep understanding of the natural world but also instils a sense of accomplishment when overcoming its challenges, making it appealing for those with a genuine interest in the subject matter.
A-Level Chemistry equips students with a diverse set of skills that extend beyond the realm of chemical knowledge. The rigorous curriculum fosters analytical thinking, problem-solving, and a systematic approach to scientific investigations. Students develop strong mathematical skills as they apply equations and quantitative analysis to understand chemical phenomena. A-Level Chemistry also cultivates effective communication skills, as students are required to articulate complex ideas and findings in both written reports and verbal presentations. Moreover, the subject nurtures a deep appreciation for the scientific method, critical evaluation of information, and the ability to make informed decisions based on evidence—a skill set that proves valuable in various academic and professional pursuits.
Obtaining an A-Level in Chemistry can be a smart move for your future for many reasons. It opens doors to diverse degrees like medicine, pharmacy, engineering, environmental science, and of course, chemistry itself. This opens up a multitude of career paths to explore. Chemistry graduates are highly sought-after in the UK, with an unemployment rate significantly lower than the national average. The demand for skilled chemists is projected to grow in the coming years, ensuring good job security. Chemists also generally have excellent earning potential, with starting salaries often exceeding £25,000 and rising significantly with experience and specialisation. Beyond the scientific knowledge, A-Level Chemistry hones critical thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and research skills highly valued by employers across various sectors.
