In a further show of support for UK diabetics, Philanthropist Steve Morgan donates another £5m to help diabetics between the age of 11-25 better cope with the condition in their younger years.

Diabetics can often feel isolated and alone, and with one-fifth of the 300,000 type 1 diabetics in the UK being under the age of 25, it’s important access to support networks is available from a young age.

After experiencing the challenges youths can face with diabetes first-hand, Steve – the founder of Deeside-based Redrow and the Steve Morgan Foundation – set about finding a way to stop this condition from holding young people back in life.

By partnering with Diabetes UK, the £5m donation has been used to fund ‘Our Lives, Our Choices, Our Voices’, a life-changing programme that focuses on improving education and community support for young diabetics.

Not only will it teach individuals how to better manage life with type 1 diabetes, but it will also advance communication channels with healthcare professionals and bolster strong peer support networks.

As quoted in Deeside.com, on discussing the partnership, Steve said: “It is so important for young people and their families to have a safe space where they can share their experiences of this relentless condition, helping to feel a little less alone on bad days, and to celebrate the successes of the good ones.

“Our Lives, Our Choices, Our Voices will connect thousands of children and young people across the UK, providing a community that will help them feel less isolated because of their condition.”

This £5m donation is the latest contribution Steve has made to help diabetics live life more comfortably. The Type 1 Diabetes Grand Challenge was a £50m partnership announced earlier this year between the Steve Morgan Foundation, Diabetes UK and JDRF UK. The challenge aims to amplify type 1 diabetes research and facilitate the development of new treatments and a cure.
