Entry Requirements

Learners are required to have English and Maths at Level 2 and be qualified and/or substantially experienced in their area of specialism. You also must not have a criminal background which prevents you from working as a teacher with young people or vulnerable adults.

Average completion timeframe

The average completion time for this course is 12 months.

Assessment requirements

Assessments will be carried out using various evaluation mediums such as, observation of practice, an internally set and marked portfolio of evidence, and an internally set and marked 30-minute professional discussion covering any aspect of professional practice.

Placement or Practical required

Placement and practice are crucial for developing high-quality teaching skills. To complete this qualification, learners must undertake a minimum of 250 hours in a further education setting, with at least 150 hours dedicated to teaching practice. Of these, at least 100 hours should focus on the trainee’s subject area, including a minimum of 80 hours of face-to-face delivery and 20 hours of live remote teaching.

This qualification does not provide the learner with the credentials required to teach in primary or secondary schools. Upon completion of this qualification, learners can apply for the professional formation of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) Status through the Society for Education and Training (SET).

If placement or practical required, when?

Learners must have access to a work placement, within a further education setting, throughout the duration of this qualification.

The qualification is assessed by a range of assessments that are designed to test your understanding and application of theory. As such, a portfolio of evidence will be required to demonstrate your practical skills, in addition to observations of your practice.

Learners will also need to have completed a minimum of 250 hours in a further education setting and be able to evidence their ability to work with groups of learners.

On successful completion of the Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills), you will receive an Ofqual recognised qualification (Number: 610/3842/8).
